When selecting your type of system, you’ll need to make some decisions.
Wireless Vs. Wired: Wireless systems can run over an internet line or a cellular network. Wired systems run over a telephone line. Wired systems aren’t likely to work if the electricity goes out, and systems operating on the internet may also go down. Wireless systems relying on a cellular network won’t work when the cellular network goes down.
Video Monitoring: Video monitoring can be done via traditionally mounted cameras, hidden cameras, or dummy cameras. Dummy cameras are the most affordable option, but are only a deterrent. Hidden cameras serve the purpose of monitoring your business, but also monitor employees and can identify employee theft. Traditionally mounted cameras can serve both purposes, as well as monitor your establishment.
Recording Options: Larger establishments may opt for Closed Circuit Television which requires active monitoring in high risk areas. Then there’s conditional recording. This would allow for recording when certain conditions are met. For instance, if the alarm goes off the video would record for a set amount of time after the alarm sounds. Then there are options to allow for video storage, which would allow for constant monitoring with either cloud based or hard drive storage.
Access: Access can be controlled by something as simple as an electronic doorbell (especially suitable for home businesses which are continuously monitored) or as complicated as a complex identity verification system that also integrates with the payroll process.
Other Features: When you choose a security system for your business, there are other features that you can add to help keep your business safe. These include fire detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, temperature monitors, and others. These features can help keep you informed of any environmental risks to your business.
