In recent months our nation has been ravaged by natural disasters and other forms of extreme weather. Hundreds of thousands of people faced mandatory evacuations, from hurricanes, flooding, to devastating fires. While the natural disasters themselves were enough to strike fear and uncertainty into the hearts of those affected, those who were evacuated faced another hard reality. Many of them would return to homes that may have survived the natural disaster, but fell victim to home invasion. The public nature of mandatory evacuations leaves entire neighborhoods open to the risk of break-ins, while the affected families flee to safety.
